In His Praise — May 17, 2020

Welcome to “In His Praise”

East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church resumed regular church services today. The joy of the Lord was evident as the church family visited with each other and worshipped together. It could be felt in every prayer that was prayed, in every song that was sung and in every word spoken for the Lord. People were happy to be back in church.

Although social distancing was observed, hand sanitizer was used, and masks were worn, the East Point CP Church family greeted each other with smiles and genuine joy  to be worshipping together again. The love of God was felt among His people.

As this pandemic comes to an end, and; as we all gradually get back to normal, East Point will continue to serve the Lord. Rev. Phil Nickles’ sermons will continue to be streamed live via Facebook each Sunday morning. You may watch  live beginning around 11:30 or look for it later in that day to be posted on or on

Of course, you are always welcome to join the congregation for Sunday school and/or worship service each Sunday at 9:45 and 11:00 am.

So until next week: “May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace” Numbers 6:24-26.

Welcome to “In His Praise”

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised,” Proverbs 31:30.

East Point CP Church sincerely wishes each of you a happy Mother’s Day. We are thankful for Christian mothers every where and for the influence they have had and are having on society today.

Proverbs 31 is probably one of the most read and familiar scriptures about women. It begins with quotes from a mother to her son, the king. Her words of wisdom are spoken out of love and from a desire for her offspring to live a Godly life.

Beginning in verse 10 to the end of the chapter we are given a look at what a woman of God should be like. She is loving, diligent, hardworking, trustworthy and kind. She is well respected by the community and her husband and children.  She is wise and faithful.

Today we are thankful for those Christian moms that strive to teach their children right from wrong. Keep walking the path with God, stay diligent and faithful, keep setting that example of a woman of God. Your love for Christ shines through in all you do and you are making a very important difference in the world.

Welcome to “In His Praise”

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” This well known  and often quoted verse is found in Psalm 118:24.  Many times these words are spoken to celebrate a new day or a special occasion, but in the book of Psalms it was spoken to acknowledge and celebrate that God would provide a way of salvation through Jesus Christ.

The unknown writer of Psalm 118  was actually speaking of future events and gives God the glory for His plan of salvation for us (Ps. 118:18-24).

Yes, we celebrate each new day as a gift from God, but we can also repeat this verse in praise of a God that loved us so much that he sent Jesus to die for our sins. Jesus, the Savior who was  resurrected to life and lives forever more to provide a path to salvation and eternal life for each of us.

Now that is good news! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Welcome to “In His Praise”

Music is a big part of our lives, it is virtually in everything we do. Music is used in tv programs and movies to enhance the drama or excitement of a scene. Music is used to celebrate and commemorate special occasions like birthdays or weddings. Music can bring back memories or create new ones. Parents can soothe a restless child to sleep by humming or singing softly to them.  Most importantly we use music to  worship and praise of our Father.

In the Bible, the book of Psalms is full of songs, not only of praise and worship but also of confession and repentance. Some songs in the Bible tell a story as they praise God, like Moses and Miriam’s songs recorded in Exodus 15. We can also read in the book of Revelation that there is music and singing in heaven. It is recorded in Luke 15:10 that the angels rejoice when just one sinner repents.

Music is a gift that God has given to us, and that we can give back to Him. It is everywhere and impacts every part of our lives. It is such a precious gift that in Zephaniah 3:17 we find a promise that God will delight in us and “he will rejoice over you with singing”. What joy these words bring to our hearts and what a blessing to be able to share this great news with others.

In His Praise — April 19, 2020

Change is something we all have been learning a lot about over the last few months. Change can be hard sometimes, but change can also be a means for growth.

For example, because of the changes that have taken place in our community since Covid-19 entered our lives, East Point CP Church has had to rethink the way we worship together. Our goal at East Point, as any church should be, has always been to spread God’s gospel to others. We want to reach as many people as possible with the good news of Christ’s salvation.

We were doing things to reach these goals, but because of the “stay at home” order, God has lead Rev. Nickles and our church to another avenue for spreading the gospel— social media. Rev. Phil Nickles’ sermons can now be seen and heard on the church’s webpage or Facebook page. We hope to continue and to expand this ministry even after this pandemic is over so that more and more people will be touched by God’s love and turn their lives over to Him.

The good news we share today is Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those that love him.” We might think of our situation now as a crisis, a roadblock , a hindrance in our worship experience, but God has made it into something good. God loves each of us and even through this “change” in our lives He is using His people to spread the gospel and reach the lost.

Thanks be to God!

In His Praise!

Good News from East Point C.P. Church

April 12,  2020

Welcome to “In His Praise”

He is risen!

He is risen indeed!

What wonderful news Mary shared with the disciples that first Easter morning! We too can still rejoice in the knowledge that we have a Savior that lives; and He walks with us everyday. He loves us and provides salvation that restores our lives when we are dead in sins.

What a wonderful Savior! What a wonderful Easter message — Christ died for our sins, but He conquered death and rose to life again. Jesus died and rose to save the world then and He saves all that will come to Him today.

We too can share this message with others — Jesus saves, Jesus saves!!
