Rev. Phil Nickles’s sermon today was titled “Don’t Recycle Your Problems”. We were reminded that God’s word is full of promises that are meant for His children. His promises are real and true and when we believe them and leave our problems with God He will move us in a new direction, so we do not
“recycle” the same problems over and over again.
Isn’t it good news to know that we have a God so mighty and yet so caring that we can bring any and all our problems, situations, and worries to Him and He can change them.
Some scriptures to help remind us of God’s goodness are found in Judges 6:12, John 16:33, Romans 8:28 and 2 Peter 1:4.
Thank you God for your good, good news!!
The good news today is found in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
In these verses we find assurance that we can talk to God through prayer and bring all our problems, requests, and praises to Him. When we give all our concerns to God, He in turn gives us a peace that we cannot even understand, but we will feel it in our hearts and mind.
These and other promises from God are real. Let’s share the good news with others!
The good news today is all about promises. A promise is an assurance, a vow or a pledge given from one person to another. Promises are intended to be kept and not broken. But we can not always trust that others will honor their commitments. Things happen — maybe one of the parties was not sincere in their pledge, maybe they were influenced by someone else and changed their mind, maybe their circumstances changed or maybe they simply forgot. Promises or vows are not honored for many reasons. When this happens hurt, anger or disappointment often occur. It sometimes seems that there is no one that is trustworthy and loyal. All this happens because we are human beings and we live in a sinful world.
But there is one promise maker that will not let us down. That is God. There are over 3000 of His promises recorded in the Bible. God’s promises are true, trustworthy and everlasting. God will never go back on His word, God will never change His mind or forget, nor will He ever be influenced by someone else.
God gives us a promise of a future with hope in Jeremiah 29:11, in John 3:16 He promises us eternal life when we believe on His Son, and in Isaiah 41:13 He promises to always help us. Take time to read the Bible and see how many promises you can find. Claim them for your life, God is good and is waiting to fulfill His promises to you.
