In His Praise — March 26, 2017

The well-known Bible commentator, Matthew Henry, once said something like this, “We should expect unchanging happiness in a changing world.” At first it sounds impossible, that we could have happiness that never changes or ends. When our world is turned upside down by sickness, death, hurt, or problems of any kind what could possibly make us happy? As we ponder this thought more, we will come to realize that the only way this constant joy is possible is to have a deep unending relationship with Jesus Christ — the source of all joy and all things good. Only He can give this kind of joy. A joy that supersedes any disappointment, that overshadows any hurt, that fills any emptiness. Yes, we will have bad times in this world, but Jesus said, “… take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33) and that is good news about which to be joyful!

The “good news” from East Point C.P. Church today is very simple and yet it is amazing. It is that Jesus is our advocate. Jesus didn’t save us and then just leave us on our own to find our way through this world. No, He is at the right hand of God making intercession for us. Think about that, the very Son of God, the Savior of the world, loves us enough to speak on our behalf to His Father. When we make mistakes, as we all do, Jesus is right there to say to the Father “that one is mine, he’s covered with my blood, she is one of the family.” When we pray to the Father in Jesus name our prayers are carried right to the throne of God. It is almost more than we can understand, but it is truly great news to know that we are loved so much! Let’s tell the world about this wonderful Advocate that we have.

What makes you feel special? Do you feel like you are unique, different than anybody else? Well, if you are child of God you should feel special and unique, because you are! You could even say that you have a royal blood line! How is this you wonder? When you accepted Jesus’ salvation and His royal blood covered your sins, then you became God’s child too and that makes you special, unique and a member of the most royal family. Now isn’t that some great news!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is a wonderful promise found in Matthew 11:28 that Jesus made to us. Do you ever become tired or worried about problems or situations that come into your life? Well, we all do from time to time. But the good news is that Jesus is standing ready to take that burden from us and help us by renewing our strength, giving us rest and encouraging us. Isn’t it good to know that Jesus loves us so much that He is willing to take all our worry from us and replace it with joy and peace? Thanks be to God!

There was a joyful spirit at East Point C.P. Church today. Everyone was happy and the fellowship was great; the music was uplifting and full of praise and Bro. Nickels message was inspirational. He talked about being “rooted” in God. Although Satan tries to steal our joy and persuade us otherwise, he cannot rip away our roots if we are grounded in God. Being grounded in God simply means having Christ as our Savior and building a foundation on Biblically sound beliefs. Satan will try to tear us away from God, but Christ has defeated Satan already and he has no authority over those that belong to the Almighty God! Now isn’t that great news!

In the 9th and 10th chapters of the book of Daniel a story is recorded that is very relevant to our lives today. It seems that Daniel had been praying for God’s help, but it appeared that God was not answering him. But Daniel did not give up, he remained faithful and continue to send his prayers up to God. Finally, in chapter 10 the scripture tells us that Daniel had an encounter with a heavenly messenger. This messenger assured Daniel that his prayer had been heard the very moment he had first spoke it and that an answer had been sent. He went on to explain though, that the deliverance of this answer had been hindered for 3 weeks by an evil spirit, and the archangel Michael had come to help break through this evil spirit. He was now there to assure Daniel that God had indeed heard his prayer and was answering it.

So what does this story have to do with us? There are several points that we can learn from this reading. One is that God always hears our prayers and He always answers our prayers. Secondly, there is an evil force in this world that does try to hinder God’s work and will try to keep us from hearing from God. But, thirdly, and most importantly, God is stronger than Satan! He will be victorious, and He will give us victory too! So keep on believing and talking to God and sharing this good news with others!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Today was Denomination Day at East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church— a day in which we celebrate the founding of the C. P. Church. This is exciting for several reasons. One, is that it is good to remember our roots and to honor those that paved a way for future generations. It is also exciting because it gives an opportunity to share the basic doctrine of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The founding belief of our denomination is that any one can be saved; we call it a “whosoever will doctrine”. In a nutshell this means that Jesus came to save all people. Nobody is too bad or has sinned so much that God cannot save them. His grace, mercy and salvation is for anyone that will repent and accept it. This Bible-based doctrine is summed up in John 3:16 ,”For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Now that is “good news” ! Let’s share it with the world!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Is there room for improvement in your life? We would all probably respond with a resounding “yes”. Our “good news” today is that God knows this and yet He still loves us. He continues to work in our lives to bring us closer to Him and help us grow in our faith and Christian walk. As we pray and study our Bibles it is good to know that God is guiding us, and through His word we receive encouragement, direction, insight, correction, and conviction. There’s an old song that says “God’s still working on me, To make me what I ought to be. It took Him just a week to make the moon and the stars, the sun and earth and jupiter and mars. How loving and patient He must be, cause He’s still working on me.” I am glad that God doesn’t give up on us. He is always close by to lovingly guide us closer to what He wants us to be!

The ‘good news” today is something wonderful that all Christians have and can share easily with others. It is a special gift from God. This special gift is the light of God inside us. This light is our witness for the Lord. We don’t need to hide our light, but let it shine forth so others will see His good works and want to follow Him also.

You might think you don’t know how to be a witness for God, but it is really simple. Just talk about what God has done for you and in your life. Your everyday activities and conversation can speak volumes about your relationship with the Lord.

You are a light for God, so shine brightly for Him!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Did you know that Christians are victorious people? It is true! When Jesus died on the cross for all our sins and then rose again to life, He conquered this world and all the evil in it. When we accept this salvation from Jesus then we too are victorious over sin, death, and the grave.

Life might not always be perfect while we are in this world, but we can be assured that we will have the final victory because Jesus has already claimed it for us!

Now that is great news to share with others!
