“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:13

In medieval times soldiers wore armor when going into battle. The armor helped protect them and hopefully keep them from being mortally wounded. Sometimes we refer to other battle gear as armor. There’s is even a car protection product that uses the term armor in its name. The point is that armor is something used to protect from danger and harm.

So when we are instructed by God to put on His “whole armor”, we need to listen and obey!

1 Peter 5:8 warns us to be beware of our enemy the devil, “who is prowling around”, looking for someone to devour (destroy). Satan is out to sway as many as possible away from God. He uses tactics that on our own we cannot fight against. But God has our backs!

Soldiers would not go into battle unprepared. They must be trained, be equipped with the proper weapons, be physically and mentally prepared for the fight and they must trust their leaders. Christians have to do some of the same things to be successful in our battle against evil.

Ephesian 6: 10 – 18 instructs us about how we should prepare for battle. First, we must be strong in the Lord (believe and trust). Then we must cover ourselves with the protection that only God can give. This armor of God is: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word (scripture), and prayer. After we have done all of this we are told to “stand firm” and to “be alert”.

The soldiers of old wore armor to be protected, but that protection failed sometimes. The armor that God provides is perfect and will never fail us in our battles against the evil we encounter. We have a strong and mighty God that will protect us, help  us and give us victory if we only rely on Him and trust in Him.
