It has been said that prayer is the Christian’s most effective weapon. Why is praying so powerful?
First of all, what is prayer? Simply stated, prayer is communicating with God. Prayer opens up the channels so that we can speak directly to the Almighty and, most importantly, so that God can speak to us. It may not be an audible voice that we hear, but God speaks to our hearts and our minds. He gives us forgiveness, direction, solace, courage, and peace.
The scriptures teach us that with God all things are possible. (See Luke 1:37 and Jeremiah 32:17) When we talk to this all powerful, all knowing, loving God we are accessing all of HIS might. So even if we are in a seemingly impossible situation, God can change things. All He wants from us is to trust and to believe in Him. Romans 8:31 says,”If God be for us, who can be against us?” What powerful words!!
James 5:16b says this about prayer, ‘The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Jesus told His disciples, “…whatever you ask for in prayer believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”, Mark 11:24. Prayer is powerful!
So when life takes it toll, when problems come, and when the war is raging remember that God is only a prayer away. He is ready to equip us to fight the battles and give us the victory. We can put on His whole armor and stand against anything the devil furls at us, Ephesians 6:10 – 18, and, He will “do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”, Ephesians 3:20.
