“I pray that you… may grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge…”
Ephesians 3:17-19
Today’s Bible verse is a part of the prayer spoken by Paul for the Ephesian people. Paul wanted to encourage and strengthen their faith and to help them be more aware of the love that Christ had for them. Although, we know that we can never measure Christ’s love, we can see examples of it in our lives everyday and throughout the scriptures.
Here a few thoughts to ponder on this subject:
How wide is the love of Christ? So wide that He stretched out His arms on a cross to be nailed there for the sins of all the world. “As far as the east is from the west so far he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12
How long is Christ’s love for us? It is eternal, it has no end. It lasts through this life and if we are His child, His love goes with us into eternity. “… his love endures forever”.
1 Chronicles 16:34
How high is Christ’s love? It reaches the highest mountain, goes to the farthest star and beyond. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.” Psalm 103:11
How deep is Christ’s love? His love reaches the deepest, darkest secrets of our lives and seeks to restore us to Him. “He lifted me out of the the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:2.
How wonderful is this love of our Lord! It is immeasurable and more than we can even imagine! (Paraphrased Ephesians 3:20) Words or thoughts can not convey the true width, length or depth of it; but how thankful we are that Christ showers His love on us freely. For this, we should ever be praising and thanking Him.
