Do you ever have a rough day? Usually when things go wrong we complain, whine, pout and sometimes lash out at others. We, as human beings, have the idea that we deserve to have everything go smoothly all the time.

But, think about this; Jesus had the roughest night and day in history! He was arrested for no reason, underwent an mock and unjust trial, was severely beaten, humiliated and then nailed to a wooden cross to die a merciless death. But did Jesus complain? No, He did not. Jesus prayed for those that were inflicting this torture upon Him and He prayed for us too.

Why would the almighty Son of God succumb to such abuse? It’s simple, because He loved those people and He loves us too. Jesus knew that taking on all the sins of the world was the only way possible for humankind to be made right with God. Jesus took all the sins and wrong doings for all time and accepted the punishment that He did not deserve, simply because He loves us and wanted to give us a way to be saved from eternal damnation.

Jesus desires a relationship with you and me that will last forever. He was willing to suffer through the worst night and day imaginable to give us this wonderful gift of salvation. Forgiveness of our sins and eternal life with Him —what good news this should be to all of us!

If you have not accepted Jesus gift of salvation, please don’t wait any longer. Make this change in your life by asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins and tell him that you want him to live in your heart. The Savior is waiting to hear from you! He loves you dearly!

Good News! God loves us in spite of our faults. The Adult Sunday School Class here at East Point has been involved in a study of the book of Jonah. Jonah was a man that God called to go to the city of Nineveh and preach repentance. But Jonah didn’t want to go, so he hopped on a ship going in the opposite direction. While on the ship a great storm came up and the sailors thought they were going to die, until Jonah admitted that the storm was his fault and told them to throw him overboard. They did, the storm settled, and God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah and rescue him from the water. Jonah stayed in the belly of this fish for 3 days and while there he prayed to God. God then caused the fish to spit Jonah up safely on the shore. Jonah then followed God’s command and went to Nineveh, but he still was not happy about it. We find in chapter 4 of this book that Jonah was actually pouting because God had chosen to spare the citizens of Nineveh, and he wasn’t afraid to speak to God about it either. But God, in His great love for Jonah and all people didn’t become angry and send a lightning bolt to strike Jonah or banish him to some far away land. No, He gently reminded Jonah that He alone is the creator of all things and Jonah had no right to be angry about any decision that He had made.

We’re like Jonah sometimes when things don’t go the way we want. We pout, we get angry and lash out to others and even to God. But, it is truly great news to know that God doesn’t stop loving us and He doesn’t forget about us or ignore us. God’s desire is for all people to live in fellowship with Him and He is patient, long-suffering and loving as we find our way to Him.

The “good news” from East Point today is very simple and it has been repeated many times. It is that God loves us and wants us to love Him. If we truly love God and let Him be in control of our lives, His love will overflow and spill out into our relationships with others. God’s love can do many things. It can mend a broken relationship, soothe hurt feelings or change a stubborn attitude. So don’t give up or be discouraged. Let the Holy Spirit begin to work and in God’s time things will change. Remember the words in I Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
