In His Praise– May 20, 2018

The good news today is a reminder that as Christians we have help with us at all times. That help is the Holy Spirit. Here is a list of  some of the things the Holy Spirit does for us.

  1. He dwells within us at all times. (John 14:17, 1 Cor. 6:19, Romans 8:16, 2 Timothy 1:14)
  2. He guards our salvation and assures us we belong to God. (Romans  8:16, 2 Cor. 1:22, 5:5))
  3. He gives us hope and peace during difficult times. (Romans 14:17, 15:13, 1 Thess. 1:6)
  4. He gives strength and endurance during trials. (Eph. 3:16)
  5. He brings conviction. (John 16;8, 1 Thess. 1:5)
  6. He provides power over temptation. (Galatians 5:16)
  7. He grows us into holiness. (1 Peter 1:2)
  8. He helps us pray. (Rom. 8:26-27, Eph. 6:18, Jude 20)
  9. He gives wisdom for decision making. (Eph. 1:17)
  10. He provides understanding of God’s word. (1 Cor. 2:9-16)
  11. He guides and directs into specific events. (Acts 13:4, 16:6, Rev. 17:17)
  12. He calls us unto salvation. (Eph. 4:4)
  13. He gives us confidence over fear. (2 Timothy 1:7)
  14. He gives us the right words to speak about God. (Acts 1:8)
  15. He gives every believer spiritual gifts. (1 Cor. 12:7, Heb 2:4)
  16. He frees us from the letter of the law and gives us the spirit of the law. (2 Cor. 3:16-18)
  17. He grows the fruit of the spirit within us. (Gal. 5:22-23)

Thanks be to God for His wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit!

In His Praise — May 6, 2018

Right before Jesus ascended to heaven, he promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to empower them to be His witnesses. This promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit appeared as  wind and flames of fire. Those present were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in languages unknown to them before. This story is found in Acts 2.

Jesus’ promise is for us too. That same Holy Spirit is still with us today. We may not speak in unknown languages, but the Bible teaches that there are other gifts that the Holy Spirit bestows upon God’s people. Romans 12 and I Corinthians 12:8-10 speak of some of the gifts that we may receive as a child of God.

The Holy Spirit not only gives us gifts to help us in our witness for God, but also comforts, guides and helps us in our daily life. What a blessing to know that God himself, through the Holy Spirit, is with us everyday, all day and will never leave us.

Now that is good news!

In His Praise — January 21, 2018

The good news today is very simple, yet very encouraging! It is that as Christians we are linked to Christ! That is to say that Christ is working in us to bring about the things that are God’s will (Phillipians 2:13).

So what does this mean for Christians? It should encourage us to draw closer to God, let the Holy Spirit work more in our lives and let Jesus be in control of our actions. Not only should others see Christ in us, we should see Christ in ourselves.

As Rev. Nickles explained today we should “walk, talk and act God-minded”. He reminded us not to speak with doubt and fear because that can prohibit God from working in our lives. Instead we need to be “linked up” with Christ! As the old saying goes, “let go and let God”. Let God control your walk, trust Him fully for guidance and let the Holy Spirit work in ways we have never imagined.

In His Praise – June 4, 2017

Here are some great points that Rev. Nickles made today during his sermon:
God never runs out of forgiveness.
God is our help and our hope.
When the Israelites cried out in the Old Testament, God sent a deliverer to bring them out of bondage.
In the New Testament when mankind cried out, God sent Jesus.
Jesus lived, died on the cross and rose to life again that we might have salvation.
When Jesus went back to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to be our comforter and helper.
God always listens and always hears us and always helps us.
God is love.
Now that is GOOD NEWS!!

Good News from East Point C.P. Church

🙏
Welcome to In His Praise!

Things are great at East Point C.P. Church! Sunday School classes are going well, there is love and fellowship among members and Bro. Nickels continues to preach strongly from the word of God. One of his favorite sayings is “don’t leave the house of God the same way you came”. Every Sunday believers come praying and expecting good things to happen. It may be something that is discussed in one of the Bible classes, or words to a song, or something shared by Bro. Phil, but people are being blessed and needs are being met. It is wonderful to see and feel the Holy Spirit at work! We praise God for that!
