The season of Advent has begun in our churches. Advent is a time when we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus. It is a wonderful time of the year, as we enjoy all the sights and sounds of Christmas, and worship our Lord as we remember the the true meaning of the holiday.
In Isaiah the birth of Jesus the Savior was foretold and again in Matthew 1:23 we read that a son will be born and He will be called “Immanuel”, which means “God with us”. Imagine that! God came down from heaven, to be with us! That has to be real love.
Not only did Jesus come on that first Christmas, He is still with us today. That good news should give us real reason to celebrate! Through all the years, through all the tears, through all the good times, through all the bad times, whatever comes into our lives we have hope because God came to us so many, many years ago. His love for us will never end.
So as we prepare our homes for this Christmas celebration, let us also prepare our hearts. Jesus came into this world as a baby, He grew and went about doing good. He died on the cross to save us from our sins and then rose to life again that we would have a way to heaven and eternal life.
What better news can we share with others than to say that “God is with us”!
