In His Praise — March 5, 2017

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is a wonderful promise found in Matthew 11:28 that Jesus made to us. Do you ever become tired or worried about problems or situations that come into your life? Well, we all do from time to time. But the good news is that Jesus is standing ready to take that burden from us and help us by renewing our strength, giving us rest and encouraging us. Isn’t it good to know that Jesus loves us so much that He is willing to take all our worry from us and replace it with joy and peace? Thanks be to God!

There was a joyful spirit at East Point C.P. Church today. Everyone was happy and the fellowship was great; the music was uplifting and full of praise and Bro. Nickels message was inspirational. He talked about being “rooted” in God. Although Satan tries to steal our joy and persuade us otherwise, he cannot rip away our roots if we are grounded in God. Being grounded in God simply means having Christ as our Savior and building a foundation on Biblically sound beliefs. Satan will try to tear us away from God, but Christ has defeated Satan already and he has no authority over those that belong to the Almighty God! Now isn’t that great news!

In His Praise — February 12, 2017

In the 9th and 10th chapters of the book of Daniel a story is recorded that is very relevant to our lives today. It seems that Daniel had been praying for God’s help, but it appeared that God was not answering him. But Daniel did not give up, he remained faithful and continue to send his prayers up to God. Finally, in chapter 10 the scripture tells us that Daniel had an encounter with a heavenly messenger. This messenger assured Daniel that his prayer had been heard the very moment he had first spoke it and that an answer had been sent. He went on to explain though, that the deliverance of this answer had been hindered for 3 weeks by an evil spirit, and the archangel Michael had come to help break through this evil spirit. He was now there to assure Daniel that God had indeed heard his prayer and was answering it.

So what does this story have to do with us? There are several points that we can learn from this reading. One is that God always hears our prayers and He always answers our prayers. Secondly, there is an evil force in this world that does try to hinder God’s work and will try to keep us from hearing from God. But, thirdly, and most importantly, God is stronger than Satan! He will be victorious, and He will give us victory too! So keep on believing and talking to God and sharing this good news with others!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Today was Denomination Day at East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church— a day in which we celebrate the founding of the C. P. Church. This is exciting for several reasons. One, is that it is good to remember our roots and to honor those that paved a way for future generations. It is also exciting because it gives an opportunity to share the basic doctrine of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The founding belief of our denomination is that any one can be saved; we call it a “whosoever will doctrine”. In a nutshell this means that Jesus came to save all people. Nobody is too bad or has sinned so much that God cannot save them. His grace, mercy and salvation is for anyone that will repent and accept it. This Bible-based doctrine is summed up in John 3:16 ,”For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Now that is “good news” ! Let’s share it with the world!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Is there room for improvement in your life? We would all probably respond with a resounding “yes”. Our “good news” today is that God knows this and yet He still loves us. He continues to work in our lives to bring us closer to Him and help us grow in our faith and Christian walk. As we pray and study our Bibles it is good to know that God is guiding us, and through His word we receive encouragement, direction, insight, correction, and conviction. There’s an old song that says “God’s still working on me, To make me what I ought to be. It took Him just a week to make the moon and the stars, the sun and earth and jupiter and mars. How loving and patient He must be, cause He’s still working on me.” I am glad that God doesn’t give up on us. He is always close by to lovingly guide us closer to what He wants us to be!

Welcome to In His Praise!
The ‘good news” today is something wonderful that all Christians have and can share easily with others. It is a special gift from God. This special gift is the light of God inside us. This light is our witness for the Lord. We don’t need to hide our light, but let it shine forth so others will see His good works and want to follow Him also.

You might think you don’t know how to be a witness for God, but it is really simple. Just talk about what God has done for you and in your life. Your everyday activities and conversation can speak volumes about your relationship with the Lord.

You are a light for God, so shine brightly for Him!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Did you know that Christians are victorious people? It is true! When Jesus died on the cross for all our sins and then rose again to life, He conquered this world and all the evil in it. When we accept this salvation from Jesus then we too are victorious over sin, death, and the grave.

Life might not always be perfect while we are in this world, but we can be assured that we will have the final victory because Jesus has already claimed it for us!

Now that is great news to share with others!

Welcome to In His Praise!
Happy New Year!! The “Good News” from East Point C.P. Church today can help you do just that — have a happy and blessed 2017.

In Rev. Nickles’ sermon today he talked about having “positive faith” in this coming year. Positive faith is faith that looks for things to happen, faith that doesn’t doubt that God can do anything! Bro. Nickels outlined four ways to have positive faith in our lives. They are:
1) Study the Bible — God’s word
2) Take action — do whatever God is moving you to do
3)Believe that God is God — He is awesome, all-mighty and all-powerful
4) Seek God diligently.

Our thoughts, words, actions and attitudes result in positive or negative faith, so in 2017 let’s show our positive faith and see what God can accomplish through us and for us.

In His Praise – December 18, 2016

Welcome to In His Praise!

The “good news” today is something that has been stated before, but it never gets old. It is that God loves you and me! How can we be sure of this? Because He sent the greatest gift ever — Jesus Christ. We celebrate Jesus’ birth on Christmas Day and remember the humble way the Son of God came into this world.

John 3:16 says that God loved us so much that He sent His only son to the world to die for our sins. Jesus, perfect and sinless, took on the sins of every person that ever lived or ever will live. Out of His great love for us He died a terrible death on the cross, then rose again to life to prepare a way for the human race to have eternal life with Him. As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us remember the real reason for the season — God’s greatest gift, our Savior, Jesus!
