“Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 2:3
Every American owes a debt of gratitude to every soldier that has ever served our country. The different branches of the military ensure that the United States stays safe and that the freedoms that we all enjoy are protected.
We find in Paul’s writings to Timothy that he used the words “good soldier” to describe workers for Christ. In fact, Christians are like soldiers for we are in spiritual warfare everyday that we are on this earth. Just as soldiers are called to serve and must follow the orders of their commander, we too must be ready to listen to our commander (Christ). Just as soldiers must prepare and train for battle, we must be prepared by having His Word written in our hearts. Just as soldiers must stay alert, we too must stay strong and focused by “praying at all times with all kinds of prayers”. (Galatians 6:18)
Even if you have never been in the military, if you are a Christian, you are in the Lord’s army. The battles we fight are not easy but we have a Divine Leader that will endow us with whatever we need to be victorious!
Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day and every soldier— young or old, active or inactive, male or female should be recognized and thanked for their sacrifice on our behalf. Even more so, we should thank our Lord, Jesus Christ, for His help and protection and we should stand ready to answer His call, like a good soldier.
